Do you feel comfortable and safe riding a bike with traffic? Do you feel you know enough to teach your children how to ride safely on their own? When you drive a car, are you confident in sharing the road with bicyclists?

Smart Cycling will give you the tips, tools, and techniques to answer YES to all of the above! Smart Cycling develops confident and competent bicyclists from beginner to experienced. Students will learn about choosing a bicycle, basic parts of a bike, and essential equipment, as well as how to safely and comfortably ride in varying traffic conditions, terrain, and climates.

This class is for high school students and adults. If you are under 18 your parent must sign a liability release/waiver before the class.

Please note that you must complete Smart Cycling Part 1 (the classroom portion) before taking Part 2. For Part 2 you must bring your own bicycle in ridable condition, a helmet that fits, and a water bottle. Then you learn and practice some riding skills in a parking lot. Finally you demonstrate the bicycling skills on local roads in real traffic situations. You should be prepared to ride about 10 miles.

This event is sponsored by the Fresno Parks and Recreation and is supported by the Office of Traffic Safety. Come join us and find out more about the PARCS weekend greenspace program, opening school campuses for recreation and fitness.
