World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
Traffic Crash Victims Demand Safe Streets and an End to Traffic Violence
November 16, 2025:
On Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m., families of traffic crash victims, politicians and street safety advocates will gather at city hall to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and to call for safer streets with room for all users of our roads, including pedestrians and bicyclists. This event is one of hundreds happening across the U.S.,which is continuing to experience elevated traffic fatalities even as national numbers are beginning to decline – after the highest number of deaths amongst people walking in 40 years. In Fresno, we have seen a number of horrifying incidents. This year, 21 people on bikes and on foot have been lost so far amid 2,790 total collisions, an encouraging improvement from the 26 lives lost last year as of September 30, 2025.
WHAT: World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
WHEN: Sunday, November 16 at Fresno City Hall
1:00 p.m.. Ceremony
WHERE: Fresno City Hall, 2600 Fresno St, Fresno, CA 93721
WHO: Family members of road-way collision victims, the Active Transportation Advisory Committee, the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition, elected officials, community leaders, including people available to share their experiences of being injured or losing loved ones in traffic crashes.
WHY: Traffic deaths are a leading cause of preventable deaths, disproportionately harming people who are walking and biking, people of color and people in low-income communities. In Fresno, we are asking for specific policy changes from our elected officials so we can move towards a future with zero traffic deaths.
● Adopt a Vision Zero Resolution for the City of Fresno setting a goal of zero traffic deaths by 2030.
● Develop and implement effective countermeasures to address “The Fatal Five”, the top five high priority locations on the high injury network as identified in the Vision Zero Action Plan.
