The FCBC Board met in January to plan out the events for 2025, with events to support the FCBC mission to build healthy, equitable, and safe communities through advocacy, education, and collaboration that promotes bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation. Here are some of the planned events:
FCBC will continue the collaboration with Toole Design on the Fresno Vision Zero Action Plan with events in February and March. More on that below.
The BIke Station will continue to be held monthly.
A Smart Cycling class will be scheduled in late February or early March in preparation for the LCI Seminar in March. More on that below.

For May is Bike Month, plans are being made for a Clean California Mural Ride in collaboration with Caltrans, the City of Fresno, and the Fresno Arts Council. The ride will include viewing new murals at San Pablo Park and Romain Park, and various underpasses below the 180 Freeway. FCBC will also work with the Fresno ATAC for the third annual Ride with the Mayor. Bike to Work Day is Thursday, May 15, and FCBC will be partnering with Caltrans with an energy station at Manchester Center. There is also the possibility of the Bike Through History returning.
Coffee Outside gatherings will be held occasionally, with the first one of the year scheduled for Memorial Day, May 26 at 10:00 at Trolley Park near Fresno High School. Register here.
For the third year in a row, FCBC will assist the Fresno State Transportation Institute (FSTI) with putting on a one-week bike camp in the summer for middle school students.

The holiday lights ride will return in December.
FCBC will be assisting Toole Design with a Vision Zero Action Plan outreach event at Holmes Community Center on First Street north of Huntington Boulevard on Saturday, February 22 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Attendees will learn about the City’s plan to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries for all road users. There will be a neighborhood bike ride, and The Bike Station will be present to assist bike owners to make basic bike repairs and safety checks. Register here.
FCBC is hosting a first-ever Bird Ride, led by Fresno ATAC member Sean Zweifler on Sunday, February 23. The ride will travel about 20 miles in south Fresno, and it will begin at Fresno High School at 3:00 pm, with a ride off time of 3:15 pm. There will be stops at Roeding Park, Jensen Sports Complex, Foster Farms, and Downtown Fresno. Bring your binoculars if you have them, and be prepared to look for egrets, starlings, crows, ducks, and possibly peregrine falcons. The ride will take about two hours until sunset, and have your bike lights ready for traveling at dusk. Register here.
Over the past two months, The Bike Station has been busy with a few key projects. We fixed up a new fleet of bikes for FCBC to use at kid’s bike rodeos.
We donated eight bikes to the Reedley Lions Club for their community event and four bikes to the Poverello House.
We also donated bikes to the Fresno Metro black Chamber of Commerce for their upcoming Spring Fling event.
The Bike Station was at Edison High School Edison Region Literacy Celebration on February 11 to get bikes ready for a bike giveaway.
Thanks for supporting The Bike Station!
FCBC will be facilitating an upcoming League Cycling Instructor (LCI) Seminar, to be held in Fresno on March 21 to 23. FCBC is working with the Fresno County Department of Public Health, CalFresh Healthy Living Program, to bring the seminar to Fresno, with some financial support from the Fresno Council of Governments. The seminar will be held at the Water, Energy and Technology (WET) Center at Fresno State. The LCI Seminar teaches participants to become teachers of Smart Cycling classes with about 24 hours of instruction beginning Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm and concluding Sunday afternoon. Upon completion, the new LCIs will be able to confidently teach and demonstrate bicycle safety and skills for bike riders of all ages.
The LCI Seminar will be taught by LCI Coach Jim Baross, President of the California Association of Bicycle Organizations (CABO) and Board Member of the League of American Bicyclists (LAB). There is a limited number of spots available for members of the general public able to pay the $550 registration fee and annual $50 membership fee to LAB. Early bird registration ends February 21 at 9:00 pm, and registration closes on February 28 at 9:00 pm. Registration information can be found here.
A prerequisite for the LCI Seminar is completion of a Smart Cycling class, consisting of a 4-hour virtual classroom session, 4-hour on-bike session, and passing a written test. A Smart Cycling class will be scheduled for the end of February, and it will be open to all. If you have any questions regarding the LCI Seminar or Smart Cycling class, you can contact John Liu, Vice Chair of FCBC, at john@fresnobike.org.
The next general membership and Board meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, respectively, via Zoom. The general membership meeting is for members and nonmembers to meet with the Board prior to the official Board meeting to ask questions or raise issues for the Board to consider. Board meetings are restricted to members only.
