FRESNO WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

ROAD TRAFFIC VICTIMS 2023

On Sunday, November 19 at 3:30 p.m., families of traffic crash victims, politicians and street safety advocates will gather at city hall to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and to call for:
- a safe routes to school program expanded to include all schools in FUSD and beyond in the city of Fresno,
- a Vision Zero resolution with a robust and equitable outreach program around the new Vision Zero plan,
- a roadside memorial policy that allows memorials to stay up as long as the families maintain them.
This event is one of hundreds happening across the U.S., which is experiencing a 16-year high in roadway deaths – and the highest number of deaths amongst people walking in 40 years. In Fresno, in Fresno we have seen a number of horrifying incidents,11 Roosevelt Injured in Car Crash at Bus Stop.

WHO: Family members of road way collision victims, the Active Transportation Advisory Committee, Fresno County Bicycle Coalition, elected officials, community leaders, including people available to share their experiences of being injured or losing loved ones in traffic crashes.
WHY: Traffic deaths are a leading cause of preventable deaths, disproportionately harming people who are walking and biking, people of color and people in low-income communities. In Fresno, we are demanding
