Bike to Work Day Recap

Fresno did Bike to Work Day on May 15th, two days earlier than the National Bike to Work Day on the 17th. iBikeFresno did a great job with the publicity campaign, and more teams than ever signed up for the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Challenge. Once again the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition organized a couple of the Bike to Work Energy Stations. Lori Cherry ran a very popular stop at the Tower Theater which featured donuts in addition to the standard fare.

Peter, Mary, Jack, and Ed (with some delivery assistance from Louise) had a great time working the FCBC Breakfast on the Bridge Energy Station at the Nevada bicycle and pedestrian bridge over freeway 41. In addition to bicycle commuters, this bridge is very busy on school days as children walk to Jefferson Elementary, on the west side of the freeway. FCBC is proud to be a community partner, working with parents and other community groups in the neighborhood to make this a safe, pleasant crossing for all of us active commuters.

Remember that when you are riding a bicycle on a facility that is shared by pedestrians, you must always yield to pedestrians. Be especially careful of small children who can be unpredictable. The Nevada Bridge is narrow, and passing pedestrians is not always possible. You may have to slow down and wait.

FCBC plans to volunteer at this bridge again, and we'd like to make Breakfast on the Bridge a regular community event!
