League Cycling Instructor Seminar

The Fresno County Bicycle Coalition offers bicycle safety instruction for all cyclists, taught by League Cycling Instructors. Demand for our courses is increasing, so this summer we'll be working with the League of American Bicyclists to bring another Instructor Seminar to the Fresno/Clovis area!

Are you an experienced daily cyclist with a passion for sharing your love of bicycling with friends and colleagues? Are you a local business or organization who would like to offer the benefit of cycling instruction to your employees and clients? Contact us now to find out how to register for this seminar.

Objectives of the Seminar

The seminar will be at least 23 hours in length and mostly about teaching principles, techniques and practice teaching rather than “bike stuff.” Ultimately, successful candidates will:
  1. understand basic teaching principles and techniques as they apply to both children and adults, and will have demonstrated them through practice teaching during the seminar;
  2. be able to evaluate the knowledge and skills of others and know how to offer constructive criticism;
  3. be able to demonstrate their understanding of the principles of the Smart Cycling program, including vehicular cycling, and show their skills with regard to bicycle equipment, bike maintenance, specialized handling maneuvers and nutrition;
  4. be familiar with specific Smart Cycling materials and existing courses and how cyclists will benefit from Smart Cycling classes;
  5. be able to plan and organize classes, including required equipment and supplies, audio-visual aids, course marking and the logistics of ordering materials and insurance;
  6. develop an understanding of the “need to know” principles and how they can be incorporated in customized presentations;
  7. know how to market classes, including using partners and marketing materials.
  8. possess an understanding of the organization, structure and mission of the League of American Bicyclists.
